RIP Dave Marsh…

A crucial contributor/chronicler to the story of Bruce Springsteen. I was already a fan of Springsteen’s back in 1981 when I bought this book. It turned me into a ‘fanatic’. The legend of Springsteen writ large. One of the most formative books in my collection (along with Robert Shelton’s ‘No Direction Home’ about Dylan, and Woody Guthries ‘Bound For Glory’). I met Dave in New Jersey (where else!) in 2010 and was able to tell him just how important this book was for me as a then 17 year old, and how it had changed my musical life. He was very humble and appreciative. He’d probably heard that a thousand times before. Dave had the foresight to look into the future and see where Springsteen was going to go. He printed the legend long before the legend was even made.
