Add 31yr old Grealish to those commitments and, under the SCR rules, the strategy would have been extremely difficult to justify. Richarlison and Grealish would offer limited resale upside, while £40m on a 25yr old Balogun represents a major financial commitment that would need to be justified by both his performance and future value. The wider squad-building strategy raises serious questions. Whoever comes in as Everton’s new investors, the transfer committee needs a major reshape.
