Anyone else paying attention to the women's team?

It's hard to know what to make of TFG with the men's team. Maybe they've pulled funding while seeking a quick exit, maybe they just don't want to splurge on players that don't have unanimous support across the recruitment team. Who knows. But I was really hopeful that they would see an opportunity to improve the women's team and I'm not sure what to make of it. They replaced Sorenson with Scott Phelan who appears popular and well liked but hardly an ambitious appointment. Maybe a bit like Moyes he seems more of a short term fix than identifying a top talent. There's no chance any other WSL team would be hiring him, that's for sure. They have a very easy start to the season fixture wise but lost 1-0 yesterday. They didn't play particularly badly and the goal was due to an error but it was pretty disappointing. They lost Martina Fernandes but seemed to recruit quite well with Hannah Silcock coming from Liverpool and Naomi Layzell on loan from Man City. With captain Meg Finnegan back from injury I thought the plan was to have good CB options to allow Ruby Mace to plan in centre midfield. She's probably the best player but I thought Kitigawa and Ishikawa weren't good enough. Hopefully Silcock and Layzell will come into the first team and improve that area. Claire Wheeler is a bit like Gana Gueye - she covers a lot of ground, wins the ball a lot but not great in possession. Vignola played well and looked dangerous. The let down though was Kramzar and McNamara are the two young, very highly rated signings but didn't really cause Palace any problems. They played as the no.10 and no.9 for the entire match and I'm not convinced they're at the level to have us pushing up the league. Last season we came 8th and I'm worried that other teams are investing more than us. Liverpool, Villa and West Ham could all go ahead of us this season. But I don't think it would take much for us to get above Brighton and Lionesses and challenge the top 5/6. So far TFG seem to be focused more on matchday revenue, some interesting signings, but not really going for it. Shame.
