At 14, the catchment area extends to 90 minutes, but there are exceptions for category one clubs — Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham, Aston Villa, Newcastle, Southampton and Wolves — who are able to guarantee local accommodation, pastoral care, and full-time education. It is a huge investment with several academy chiefs explaining that funding private education costs around £30k per player, per year.
