Busy morning, blues?! Ndiaye - £60m feels cheap. We’re losing our best wide midfielder on both sides of the field. Loved watching him play and sad to see him leave (especially to Spurs…we really missed an opportunity in not relegating them). That said, buy low / sell high (à la Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford etc) is what we’ve all been saying so it’s hard to fault the execution of that - as long as we reinvest wisely (hint: I don’t think we are). Armstrong - If fan reaction is what swayed the change of heart then are we running all future decisions by fan vote? Happy he’s staying but the next problem is keeping him in the team - especially with less than two years on his existing contract. Another year on the bench and we’ll be forced to sell, next season. Beto - Great business at £20m. Richarlison - Injuries mask a decent enough return during his time at Spurs. Will be an upgrade on Beto (altho I never thought that he played as well up front as he did wide left). But £35m is insane. £15m, absolute max. No idea why we’re paying that kind of money for just about any 29 year old, let alone Richarlison. And if we’re buying him to replace Beto I think there are several better options in the £35m range we could consider. Grealish - A shame to stunt George’s development - and I fear this, combined with the sale of Ndiaye will massively slow us down. Lovely player, I just don’t think we need him. Tete - Excellent right back, too often injured. If he can stay fit tho, this is a good move (just a shame it has a £9m associated cost for a player we could have had a year younger and for free, 12 months ago). Overall, I think we’d be stronger at right back, weaker on the wings, overstocked in central midfield, a little better up front (albeit at an insanely overpriced cost). I don’t love where we’ve ended up and it doesn’t feel particularly forward thinking. There’s also a lot of change to attempt to meld in a short space of time. No worries about staying up but I’m not convinced this significantly strengthens a push towards the top seven.
